about

The Fantastic 5, a four-piece Indie/Alternative rock band from South Florida, have been delivering their extraordinary blend of somber, brooding and sometimes macabre ( but wholly relevant) lyrical imagery that comes sheathed in their own unique, alternative, punky, melodic style to eager audiences since 2002 via their previous releases Saves the World Part I released in 2003, a largely DIY effort recorded in a bedroom, and “Dead by Easter”, an album full of the dark matter that would become their signature sound, released finally in 2008 after a changing of the guard in the form of a new drummer and bassist after original drummer Mario Mesquita and bassist Scott Mudry left the band.

The Fantastic 5, or F5 as they are widely known, is comprised now of founding members Tony Nassif (singer/songwriter/guitarist), previously a solo artist who spent much time scouring various coffeehouses with the likes of medieval storytellers and starving musicians, and Roxana “Roxy” Camacho (lead/rhythm guitar) who learned to play guitar and piano by ear at the age of eight and rips it up with a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier Stack and a Jackson Randy Rhoads guitar, they are joined by member Frank Tatto (bassist) who has been steeped in heavy metal bass riffs since the 80’s, claims to have loved F5 since his first time hearing them, joined F5 in 2010 and who is completely willing to overlook what he deems to be F5’s terrible taste in coffee. Drummer Steve “Dog” Monell (2008-2014) featured on the third album left the band in the summer of 2014 and has been succeeded by Christian Roney in the USA. Original F5 drummer Mario Mesquita, now based in Brazil, rejoined the band as the international drummer in early 2015.

On their latest release “The Revenge of Pancho Villa” The Fantastic 5 have been expanding on some of the heavy-garage power-pop style of their early days and have also boldly been branching out with tunes like the folksy, Spaghetti-Western-esque Mexicana of “Guadalajara”, the early Pixies style vibe of “Execution”, the New York Dolls-like proto punk on “Laguna Beach” and the anthemic melancholy of “Northern Day” in their latest CD.

Drawing on the nearly 40 songs that had been written and arranged but which remained mostly unreleased (except for the gems that made their second album), F5 has been performing daring feats of genre-bending, breathing new life into songs already penned and introducing new collaborative efforts that explore their musical range, putting an emphasis on the unique talents of each member while writing songs that capture their individual and collective strengths, managing to orchestrate a menagerie of styles that are seamlessly blended but true to their original sound.

Track Name: Buried in Monterey
hey union jack wave your flag goodbye
summer's here and it's time to ride
It's a nonstop turnaround get up and go
on the set of this inferno.

say you're buried in monterey, on a little piece of heaven
and that's the sweetest getaway you could ever get into.
say you're buried in monterey, on a little piece of heaven
i hope you stay, stay buried in monterey.

hey kid stop listen now there's a new trick in a wide open town.
it's popcorn razors and sharpened nails, somersaults on the metrorail.

say you're buried in monterey, on a little piece of heaven
and that's the sweetest getaway you could ever get into.
say you're buried in monterey, on a little piece of heaven
i hope you stay, stay buried in monterey.
Track Name: Detroit's Burning
all my life i've been waiting
tonight there'll be no hesitating
it's the last chance on that ddt
a last chance for mediocrity
and i hold my breath
waiting to die, it's 7 to 11 on a saturday night

detroit's burning and no one cares
i've got a fistful of open air and there's always someone trying to grab it.
detroit's burning and no cares and i can't wrap my hands around it.

detroit's burning

all my life i've been waiting
tonight there'll be hesitating
on the 13th of the month of may
i'll make them look back this way and
pay back what belongs to me not this worthless debauchery
that i don't want anyway.

detroit's burning and no one cares
i've got a fistful of open air and there's always someone trying to grab it.
detroit's burning and no cares and i can't wrap my hands around it.

detroit's burning
Track Name: Execution
last night i heard a certain little record
it went to my head it's gonna get better.
it went on, it went on, it kept repeating
to the sound, to the sound of my heart beating

it's something special that you've got
it may not mean much to you but to me it means alot
and leaving might be some kind of solution but
to me it's just another, another little execution.

last night i hear the 13th elevator falling from the sky like
a roman dictator. it went on, it went on, it kept repeating.
to the sound, to the sound of my heart beating.

it's something special that you've got
it may not mean much to you but to me it means alot
and leaving might be some kind of solution but
to me it's just another, another little execution.

there's a tidal wave coming across the mountain
burning like a bridge, like a tunisian fountain
dripping cross the trees like a vulture in a race
or a motherfu**ng sky falling on your face.
Track Name: Northern Day
soft and low, the price you pay, you give it all
to throw it all away.
the times we had weren't so bad, you let them
all slip through the palm of your hand.
on the coast of the arabian sea, thinking how it used to be.
in the shadow of the sun all the knots just come undone.

throw it all away, blowing on a northern day

soft and low, rich and hard, pulling
out the summer card
fading through the window pane a
memory of some sugar cane.
on the coast of the arabian sea, thinking how it used to be.
in the shadow of the sun all the knots just come undone.

throw it all away, blowing on a northern day
Track Name: Guadalajara
i was searching for some dynamite, driving like a freight train through the night. and we stopped there at a 7-11
sent that cashier up to heaven
a naked man on the side of the road
said 55 miles to San Antone
it's 120 degrees, out here you don't even feel a breeze.

all the coffee you've been drinking, all the the sweet lips you've been sinking aren't too far away.
all the joy and all the laughter, all the nuclear disasters aren't too far away.

i was searching for a city of gold, found it out near the resurrection hole.
there was a crown of thorns on her head. i looked up
the sky was turning red.

all the coffee you've been drinking, all the the sweet lips you've been sinking aren't too far away.
in Guadalajara there'll be no more tomorrows or yesterdays.
Track Name: Santa Muerte
i saw her on the corner there
alone in her electric chair singing
songs about tepito, songs about life
sink in deep into that bowie
knife and to that pcp
send your prayer right back to me

i saw her on the corner, just couldn't get away
i had to fall down on my knees and pray and pray and pray
to
Santa Muerte
i saw her walking in my sleep now
Santa Muerte
i saw her walking in my dream

i saw her on the altar there, smoke was drifting through
the air, songs about tepito, songs about life
sink in deep into those candy skulls and champurrado
tap the sky with a slight staccato
en tepito todo se vende menos la dignidad

i saw her on the corner, just couldn't get away
i had to fall down on my knees and pray and pray and pray
to
Santa Muerte
i saw her walking in my sleep now
Santa Muerte
i saw her walking in my dream

we picking up the pieces trying to find our life
i was arrested by a soldier with a downtown bowie knife.

i saw her on the corner, just couldn't get away
i had to fall down on my knees and pray and pray and pray
to
Santa Muerte
i saw her walking in my sleep now
Santa Muerte
i saw her walking in my dream
Track Name: Worn Out Photograph
you smile, you laugh, it's all in that worn out photograph
that keeps on flashing through my head
it plays and plays, it goes on and on for days.
i wish that i could shut it off.

you bleed, you call, i've got your picture on the wall
i'm gonna throw it in the other direction.
it's always the same, it's all some stupid little game.
i'm not gonna play it with you anymore.

you smile you laugh it's all in that worn out photograph
that keeps on moaning through my head tonight
it's a meaningless thing, a lifeless bloodless ring that keeps on roaring through my room tonight.

you bleed, you call, i've got your picture on the wall
i'm gonna throw it in the other direction.
it's always the same, it's all some stupid little game.
i'm not gonna play it with you anymore.
Track Name: Idaho
it's a new world order
you're a common little thief
you've got shellac in the basket, you've got semen on the streets
you get laid, you get paid
in the missionary position
it's common to an empire or a fascist inquisition.

and you're terrified and shaking
on a two week reservation
i'd like to take you for a spin
and you're petrified and pissed on
i can't even get a grip on this filthy toilet seat...

let's go, let's go back to Idaho
let's go, let's go back to Idaho
let's go, let's go back to Idaho
let's go, let's go back to Idaho

there's a new dictator jumping on a flag
trying to stuff your brother
to the bottom of a bag.
a fascist predicament in the office of the king
whack the paper tigers clipping
on the wing.

and you're terrified and shaking
on a two week reservation
i'd like to take you for a spin
and you're petrified and pissed on
i can't even get a grip on this filthy toilet seat...

let's go, let's go back to Idaho
let's go, let's go back to Idaho
let's go, let's go back to Idaho
let's go, let's go back to Idaho
Track Name: Laguna Beach
you smile, you've got grace
all dressed up with a painted face
maybe next summer we'll meet at the beach
and find our way under some great big
wave and stay until we
watch the sun fade
over the back of someone's rusted cadillac.

yes, i know, that's where we want to go
where the birds all sing and it always
feels like spring
someday i'll reach back to laguna beach

laguna beach

this strip is a drag
an airplane with a time lag
i'm gonna kick this race and head out west to outerspace
maybe this summer we'll meet at the beach
and find our way under
these miles of sky, watching the sun die.

yes, i know, that's where we want to go
where the birds all sing and it always
feels like spring
someday i'll reach back to laguna beach

laguna beach
Track Name: Southside
get your motor, get your pills
get your dreams and your prescription filled
and your open days and dead dead nights
yeah you're sleeping there, yeah you're doing alright.

you're on fire, you've lost control, you're going in and out
the rabbit hole.

on the southside you're slipping through the day, slipping through the night.
on the southside, you could slip and throw away, slip and throw away your mind.
on the southside...

raise the hammer, swing it back
you're father died from a heart attack
on your sister's wedding day
alfred look the other way.

you're on fire, you've lost control, you're going in and out
the rabbit hole.

on the southside you're slipping through the day, slipping through the night.
on the southside, you could slip and throw away, slip and throw away your mind.
on the southside...
Track Name: You've Got No Life
i felt myself climbing up the street
i had another one, another little beat
clanging like an electric violin
was the second, the second i begin
a metamorphoses on the stage
was another one, another dumb rage
clanging like a, like a falling star on the
back of, the back of your car.

the kids are getting hip, the crowd's going wild
everything's coming back in style
in the middle of the day, the middle of the night
you've got no life

i felt myself climbing up the street
i had another one, another little beat
on a lifeline of electricity
swarming like a, like a bumblebee
banging through the walls of my mind
a simple thing
dead as it arrived
like a dried up bitter fruit
on the bottom of a cowboy boot.

the kids are getting hip, the crowd's going wild
everything's coming back in style
in the middle of the day, the middle of the night
you've got no life
Track Name: Ultrasonic
i went up before i went down
i'm gonna beat myself right into the
motherfu**ing ground
and i will hold you there and keep you tight
each and every single night.

i'm ultrasonic, the son of sam
they call me mr. bionic
i'm gonna sacrifice your motherfu**ing...

man

i'm a monster, i'm a brat
i'm a .44 through your door what's left is on the
floor mat.
and i'll find you where you like to hide, find you deep
inside your mind.

i'm ultrasonic, the son of sam
they call me mr. bionic
i'm gonna sacrifice your motherfu**ing...

when sam gets drunk he gets mean but i won't let him hear you..
hear you scream....

i'm ultrasonic, the son of sam
they call me mr. bionic
i'm gonna sacrifice your motherfu**ing...
